1. Apple plans to combine ‘Find My Friends’ and ‘Find my iPhone’ - It looks like Apple is currently working on developing a new app that will replace its ‘Find my iPhone’, and ‘Find My Friends’ apps. According to a report online, the upcoming app is internally known as “GreenTorch” and engineers are currently testing it to ensure that it is working properly. The information revealed that the new app will have all the functionalities of both the apps while launching on iOS and macOS as a Marzipan app. It will also come with a new feature called “Find Network” which will allow the app to find and track the devices of the user even if they are not connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.


2. Xiaomi Redmi Y3 teased with gradient finish, 4000mAh battery ahead of April 24 launch - Adding to the list of teasers, Xiaomi has once again tweeted out about its upcoming Redmi Y series smartphone, the Redmi Y3. The handset will boats of a 4,000mAh battery instead of previous generation 3,080mAh battery featured on the Redmi Y2. Also, the image teaser reveals a gradient back panel with a mix of Blue, Purple, and Yellow colors.
Xiaomi will be launching the next generation Redmi Y3 in India on April 24. The selfie-centric smartphone will come with 32-megapixel front facing camera, already confirmed by Xiaomi’s Global VP and Managing Director India, Manu Kumar Jain. The jump to a 32-megapixel selfie camera on Redmi Y3 would be a huge improvement considering the Redmi Y2 came with only a 16-megapixel camera for selfies.


3. Apple might refresh iPhone 8 with faster A13 processor next year - Apple might bring back the iPhone 8, its smallest and most affordable iPhone that was discontinued last year. The Cupertino-based company is expected to launch three models as successor to iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max this year but in 2020, it could bring back the iPhone 8. A new report states that Apple is planning a different strategy for its small iPhone model and that will involve refresh of the iPhone 8 with an updated processor, which could be the A13 processor.
According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Apple will use an “old bottle, new wine” strategy for its iPhone lineup next year. Apple’s iPhone lineup currently involves the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on the lower end, followed by iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in the midrange, the iPhone XR as a LCD flagship and the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max as premium flagship. If Apple follows its strategy like in the past then the company will drop the iPhone 7 lineup when it launches new models in September 2019. leaving the iPhone 8 with 4.7-inch display as the smallest device in its lineup.


4. Xiaomi may launch one more product along with Mi TV on April 23 - Xiaomi not only makes smartphones, but also televisions, air purifier and other smart IoT devices. Just recently, it was reported that the Chinese company is planning to expand its TV portfolio, and will launch a new Mi TV line up on April 23. But it turns out Mi TV is not the only product the company will be launching in China. Xiaomi has teased the launch of a new product under the MIJIA smart home brand, GizmoChina reports.
The teaser doesn’t shed light on what could be the new product, apart from the brand name. The “poster was shared by the MIJIA Smart Weighing scale Weibo handle,” the report mentioned. Besides, the new TV line up that Xiaomi is prepping to launch is expected to be Mi TV 5 series, which will be the successor to existing Mi TV 4 series. The new devices are said to offer a thin bezel design, similar to the Mi TV 4 and Mi TV 4X Pro. Additionally, the highlight of the new TVs is likely to be Xiaomi’s PatchWall UI.


5. MediaTek’s 5G chip arriving in India by year-end - Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek on Thursday said it is set to introduce a 5G-enabled chipset in India by the end of this year to step up the competition around faster wireless data connections. “5G is a very big focus area for us. The SoC (system-on-chip) will surely be launched by the end of the year and shipped next year,” Anku Jain, Managing Director, MediaTek India, told IANS here. The company is busy working on 5G-enabled chipsets.
“We came up with the M70 modem last year that provides 5G capabilities and it will be shipped later this year with a SoC which combines the modem and the CPU into one single chip,” Jain added. The company, however, did not reveal an exact timeline for the SoC launch. The chipset manufacturer announced its Helio M70 5G modem at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference in Guangzhou early last year.
