1. OPPO A9 with 6.53-inch display, Helio P70 SoC launched - “OPPO A9 mid-range phone also has a dual rear camera setup and a 4,020mAh battery”
OPPO has officially launched the A9 smartphone in China, putting an end to rumours and leaks. The latest A series handset is the successor to the OPPO A7 smartphone that was launched in November 2018. It sports a 6.53-inch display 19.5:9 aspect ratio display and powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC. In line with the rumours, the device packs a tiny waterdrop notch on the front to accommodate the selfie snapper.


2. TikTok ban lifted in India - “The ban upliftment comes with a number of conditions from the Madras High Court”
Fast-growing Chinese video app TikTok was banned in India on April 18 due to a Madras High Court directive to take down the app from the App Store and Google Play Store. However, just around ten days after that, the nation-wide ban has been lifted with certain conditions. Tik Tok was one of the fastest growing short-video apps in India in the past quarter and claims to have 54 million active users.


3. Facebook Stories crosses 500 million daily active users - “The Stories feature on Facebook is used as regularly as Instagram Stories”
Facebook has revealed that its Stories feature currently has over 500 million daily active users. The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the figure during the Q1 2019 earnings call with investors. In September last year, the social network had revealed that it had over 300 million daily active users using the feature.The Facebook Stories feature was released almost two years ago and is a direct ripoff of Snapchat Stories. The company first added the feature to Instagram and was an immediate hit with users. The Instagram Stories feature turned out to be quite popular and had over 500 million users back in September last year. Facebook then rolled out the same to WhatsApp, which also has more than 500 million daily users now. Compared to this, Snapchat – which invented Stories – has just around 190 million daily users.


4. Xiaomi files patent for a smartphone design with a reverse notch - “The patent reveals iterations of the Xiaomi smartphone with a notch that sticks past the top edge of the phone, just like the pop-up camera”
While there’s a section of population out there that still can’t fathom a notch-toting display, Xiaomi seems to be working on a new smartphone that might leave you cringing. The phone maker has reportedly acquired a patent that shows several possible variations of a smartphone’s notch. The notch, in the sketches (below), seems to stick past the top edge of the phone, just like a pop-up camera.


5. OnePlus 7 set to launch on May 14th, and we couldn’t be more excited - “For the first time ever, OnePlus is holding a global launch in Bangalore along with events across the globe”
It’s official. The launch date for the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro has been announced, leaving fans quite stoked. May 14th is the day when the wraps will be taken off the two handsets. And for the first time ever, this brand will be holding simultaneous events in as many as four cities — London, New York, Bangalore and Beijing.
